Is old freshwater aquarium water good for houseplants?

Friday, June 6th, 2008
Deneen asked:

I have an established freshwater aquarium. When I do water changes, I want to be frugal and use the water to water my plants. Is this a good idea?

The old aquarium water has nitrates and some nitrites and is Ph balanced. There is also some diluted salts in it.

How can I grow aquarium plants at home?

Monday, February 11th, 2008
Krysta d asked:

I bought some aquarium plants from a local store here. The lady doesn’t know what kind they are. They are long and skinny and have leaves going all the way around. I put them in my turtle tank and they love them! But I am wondering
1. What kind of plant this is? Similar plants they will eat?
2. How can I grow them at home?
