How to disinfect rocks from the backyard to put into aquarium?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008
Leika S asked:

I found some pretty cool stones, and I want to use them in my cichlid aquarium. They’re not porous, they’re slabs of rock.
Right now I have them soaking in boiling water, and a high concentration of aquarium salt.
Will they be safe in my aquarium after this?
I expect the hot water and salt to kill any microorganisms that may hard my fish.

I just **** paying $30 for a dumb rock at the store. How do they prepare their rocks to be aquarium safe?

How do I clean my aquarium sponge filter without scattering the dirt in the water?

Sunday, January 20th, 2008
spamela000 asked:

When I pull my sponge filter (from a suction cup) off the bottom of the tank up out of the aquarium all the dirt and slime spills into the water. There isn’t much left to wash off the sponge and the dirt is still floating in the water. I’ve tried grabbing the sponge with a paper towel or plastic bag over my hand to keep dirt from floating off, but it doesn’t seem to work.

How often should my aquarium light be on?

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008
flapanthers2000 asked:

I have 4 angelfish, 3 bala sharks and a pleco and was wondering about the aquarium light. I have heard varying reasons to have the light on or off, so are there any real guidelines to running the aquarium light? The tank is in a moderate light area (Some sunlight from across the room, but no windows near by).

Thanks!!

Is it possible for aquarium bulbs 2 cause a fishs color to fade?

Sunday, January 13th, 2008
sunrise_n_tn asked:

I put a Aqua Glo bulb (15 watt) in my aquarium of guppies, neon tetras, etc…I had it on last night noticed that the fish didn’t seem to be as bright in color as they used to. Could they be fading? The water was a little cloudy because I’d just put in some waste control it says it can fog the water for a bit. So could that be it or maybe my eyes playing tricks on me? Thanks!
